Growing up in Jakarta, -a city full of stray animals, I started rescuing cats in Elementary School; I often brought kittens left by their mothers or injured cats because my school was on a prominent street where people drive fast.
Of the many cats I rescued, some left incredible memories. For example, I found Buyung, an orange-white cat, looking very emaciated and dirty in a small alley. I was there to copy some documents, and my eyes locked on this tiny thing roaming around aimlessly. I didn't have the plan to take him, rather than just buying a piece of chicken from a street food seller nearby. But as soon as I saw him having difficulty biting the food and a motorcycle nearly drove over him, I immediately thought I should rescue him; otherwise, he couldn't make it another day living like that.
When I moved abroad, my parents cared for him until 2014, when he passed away due to old age and health complications.
Buyung, as a pet cat, had so much personality. He was spoilt and loud, and he did whatever he liked. Once, he brought a tiny mouse and left it in the middle of the living room while sleeping next to it, looking so proud, like its the biggest moment of his life.
He was my loveliest, and when I was looking for inspiration for the following new collection, I wanted to honour him specially. So that's how the idea of the Buyung bag was born.
Apart from Buyung, there were several other cats at that time whom he loved to play with. One is a black-white, and the other is a black cat. I remember them meowing so loud when it was their time to eat, sitting sharply with eyes on the prize, that shredded fish or boiled chicken my mother mixed with dry food.

The Buyung bag has become more than just a purse to me. It's a symbol of the connection that I shared with my cat. Moreover, it was also a memento of how lovely my late father was.
Vividly I remember him saying..
"This house doesn't accept stray cats anymore!"
But then, he was the one who was inseparable from Buyung. lol.
I hope those purchasing the bag will feel that same connection and love, be it with their pets or with their beloved someone.
With love, Amy.
